2020 Australasian Aid Conference Set for February 17-19 in Canberra
Canberra, Australia, December 16, 2019 — The Asia Foundation, in partnership with the Development Policy Centre at Australian National University, will host the 2020 Australasian Aid Conference on February 17-19 at ANU’s Crawford School of Public Policy in Canberra. With over 600 people registered last year, the annual event is Australia’s premier aid and development conference. The keynote address will be delivered by former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and current Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Radhika Coomaraswamy, who will be speaking on women, peace, and security.
In its seventh year, the Australasian Aid Conference continues to bring together researchers from across Australia, the Pacific, Asia, and beyond who are working on aid and international development policy to share insights, promote collaborating, and help develop the research community.
This year, several Asia Foundation experts will speak on a number of keynote panels and seminars. Timor-Leste Country Representative Pauline Tweedie and Director of Governance Nicola Nixon will discuss the Foundation’s collaboration with DFAT and the Whitelum Group on rethinking civic space in seven Southeast Asian countries. Thailand Country Representative Thomas Parks and Senior Advisor for Program Strategy William Cole will chair and speak on the intersection of Australian foreign assistance and the changing geopolitical context in the Indo-Pacific region. Director of Conflict and Fragility Adam Burke will lead a seminar on preventing violent extremism in Southeast Asia. Senior Director of Women’s Empowerment Program Jane Sloane will chair a panel on advancing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda in Asia.

The Development Policy Centre (Devpolicy) is a think tank for aid and development serving Australia, the region, and the global development community.
