Honoring Champions for Women and Girls in Asia

February 28, 2018

By Editor

This past week, The Asia Foundation honored partner Colorful Girls from Myanmar, and Mrs. Akie Abe spouse of the prime minister of Japan, in the first-ever Bay Area Lotus Leadership Awards dinner to support the Foundation’s work to empower women. The Asia Foundation recognized Colorful Girls for empowering adolescent girls in Myanmar, and Mrs. Abe for her commitment to advancing women’s empowerment in Japan and Asia, notably in Myanmar.

The celebration included remarks from the honorees, as well as from Women’s Empowerment Director Jane Sloane, Bay Area Lotus Circle Convener Lucy Lee, and Lotus Advisors Sydnie Kohara and Missie Rennie. Read a blog post here where InAsia editor Alma Freeman speaks with Brooke Zobrist, Colorful Girls technical advisor, and an exclusive Q&A with Mrs. Abe. Here is a slideshow that captures highlights from the evening.
