Meloney C. Lindberg has been the Foundation’s country representative in Cambodia since 2017. She oversees a diverse portfolio of projects including improving the capacity of knowledge sector institutions to undertake quality research to inform public policy analysis and dialogue; and to engage with private waste collection firms and local stakeholders to test interventions to increase accountability and responsiveness in municipal solid waste collection and management. Her women’s empowerment portfolio includes projects that advance women’s economic opportunities through skill development programs for tech entrepreneurs and high school students; improve women’s safety and security by building government capacity to delivery legal services to survivors of gender-based violence and conducting public safety audits to highlight women’s urban safety at the subnational level. As part of the Cambodia office effort to increase environmental resilience, a household level survey was conducted to better understand the gender dimensions of water and poverty. To further strengthen regional cooperation, the office supports Cambodians to participate in study exchanges, workshops and research across Asia and the United States.
From 2009 to 2017, Lindberg served as country representative in Mongolia, where the Foundation’s programs advance transparent and accountable governance, enhance citizens’ participation, promote women’s economic rights, engage in regional cooperation, and strengthen responsible environmental resource use. She previously served as the Foundation’s deputy country representative in Sri Lanka, where she managed rule of law programming. She was also the Foundation’s deputy country representative in Afghanistan from 2004-2008, where she was responsible for a diverse set of programs related to the advancement of women and girls through education initiatives. Together, with local Afghan organizations she worked to pilot an awareness-raising program for community leaders on women’s rights within an Islamic perspective. In 2002-2004, she was the deputy country representative in the Philippines where she worked on anti-corruption and access to justice programs.
Education: Meloney Lindberg earned a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Miami University, and a master’s degree in International and Intercultural Management from the School for International Training, World Learning in Brattleboro, Vermont.
