Former Program Officer, Cambodia

Chansomey Chheang formerly served as program officer for The Asia Foundation in Cambodia. Chheang coordinated Let’s Read, an initiative that cultivates meaningful reading opportunities for children in Cambodia by creating high quality children storybooks in Khmer as well as connecting with local publishers to share their contents that are available for free and open source on the Let’s Read digital library. Let’s Read is supported by Smart Axiata, Starbucks and The Asia Foundation. Chheang also coordinated an initiative supported by the US Embassy that promotes STEM education to encourage lower and higher secondary students from public school students to pursue STEM education and improve their understanding of STEM careers.

Prior to this, Chheang worked with the Reform Inventory Initiative to educate the general public and encourage government transparency and accountability.

Education: Chansomey Chheang holds two bachelor’s degrees in International Relations from Pannasastra University of Cambodia and Teaching English as a Second Language from Institute of Foreign Languages of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Chheang also completed two exchange programs at Institute of South East Asian Affairs (ISEAA) in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and at Siena Italian Studies in Siena, Italy as an undergraduate.
