Anna Bantug-Herrera serves as the associate director of The Asia Foundation’s office in Washington, DC. She has 15 years of professional experience in the field of economic development, with special interest and experience in programs in financial services and regional issues in Asia.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Bantug-Herrera was a director of the Asia region at Chemonics International, an international development consulting firm, from 2003-2010. There she provided overall management and technical direction for multimillion dollar, USAID-funded contracts, including the Philippines Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) project and the Accelerated Microenterprise Advancement Project (AMAP).
Prior to Chemonics, Ms. Bantug-Herrera lived in Southeast Asia for nearly a decade including Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. She worked in the Social Development Division of UN-ESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) and at the APEC Secretariat in Singapore. Ms. Bantug-Herrera served with the Philippine government for two years at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority under Chairman Richard Gordon. She has presented and published on a range of economic development issues – including microfinance, mobile technologies, rural and agricultural finance, regulatory considerations for microfinance and reproductive health and family planning.
Education: B.S. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; MBA in International Business from Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technnological University, Singapore (full scholarship)
