Lauren Kahea Moriarty served on The Asia Foundation Board of Trustees from 2014 to 2022. She serves on boards related to education and international affairs and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Teaching from Chaminade University. From 2010-2013, Moriarty was dean of Academics at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, a U.S. Department of Defense educational institution and premier center for exchanges among Asia-Pacific security practitioners. Prior to that, she was a career U.S. diplomat for almost three decades, working primarily on international trade, finance, and development issues. Moriarty was U.S. Senior Official to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) with rank of Ambassador (2003-2005). She led the Economic Sections at the U.S. Embassy in China and the American Institute in Taiwan and served as deputy head of the American Institute in Taiwan.
Moriarty has lived and worked for twelve years in East and Southeast Asia (China, Taiwan, and Thailand) and seven years in South Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan). She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaiʻi and a master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
