Human Rights Practitioner, Japan



Rina Komiya is a Japanese human rights practitioner with a strong gender and refugee protection background. She has worked internationally for a foundation, international NGOs, and the United Nations across Japan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Jordan, and Bangladesh. While much of her work focuses on global issues, she is also committed to grass roots work at home. Rina established a volunteer group after the Great Tohoku Earthquake in Japan in 2011 and continues to contribute to a disaster-affected area of Japan by organizing international cross-cultural exchange activities. She also works as an instructor for refugee children in Japan. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from Waseda University, a master’s degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics, and a master’s degree (with Distinction) in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford.
