Sandra Hamid is The Asia Foundation’s country representative in Indonesia. Sandra is cultural anthropologist and development specialist with strong interests in political participation, civil society, religious freedom and pluralism. She is a three-time winner of The Asia Foundation’s Presidential Award for Exceptional Performance; a fellow for Center for Indonesian Law and Islam and Society at the University of Melbourne; a Draper Hills Summer Fellow on Democracy and Development at Stanford University. She studied at Universitas Indonesia, and later received a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where later she received her doctorate in anthropology.

Education: Doctor of philosophy degree in Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
