Sophea Heang was formerly program manager for the Foundation’s Ponlok Chomnes Program: Data and Dialogue for Development in Cambodia. Sophea was formerly a Foundation staff member, leaving the organization to pursue her master’s degree in Melbourne in 2013. Prior to re-joining The Asia Foundation, Sophea took on consultancy assignments with Emerging Markets Consulting and was the lead on the final evaluation study of an Environmental Public Health Project and also contributed to the market study on Cambodian’s fruit market. Her previous work with the foundation between 2007 and 2013 was under two donor-funded programs—Counter Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) funded by USAID and Demand for Good Governance Project (DFGG) funded by the World Bank. In her role with CTIP, she had managed five grantee partners under the protection and reintegration component, tailored reporting and monitoring formats for program partners and monitored minimum standards for the protection of victim rights. Sophea joined the DFGG project in 2011 where she supported the learning component. Within this role, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, she coordinated the development of two training curricula with a series of training sessions for both NGOs and government officials.
Education: Sophea Heang holds a master’s degree in Development Studies from The Melbourne University in Australia, and a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan.
